INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE «INDIAN RAMAYANAS»

Russian State University for the Humanities jointly with Russian universities and universities of the CIS countries organized an International research conference dedicated to the 490th anniversary of the birth of Tulsidas, an Indian poet and philosopher.
More than 40 participants presented their unique reports on the study of the Ramayana in Russia and the CIS countries.
A virtual painting exhibition “My Beautiful India” of Russian painter Vladimir Serebrovsky was shown during the conference. His 70 works were dedicated to the ancient Indian epic Ramayana

Welcome address was given by Dr. Irina Bakanova , Director of the Museum Center of the RSUH, Tamara Varfolomeeva (Serebrovskaya), the curator of the exhibition and Prof. Sergey  Serebryany, Director of the Institute for Higher Humanitarian Studies of the RSUH.
Dr. Irina Bakanova and Tamara Serebrovskaya presented the book named "Ramayana", with illustrations made by painter Vladimir Serebrovsky. The book was donated to Prof. Alexander Stolyarov, Director of the International Center for South Asian Studies of the RSUH.
Teachers and students of various Russian and CIS countries universities involved in research in the field of language and literature presented their plenary reports and discussed the Ramayana in different thematic blocks.
Students of Saint Petersburg State University (SPBU) made presentations about Ramayana, considered within the framework of such aspects as political, pedagogical and philological. Students of the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) recited the poems from the book "Ramayana", written by Valmiki,  the harbinger-poet in Sanskrit literature.
