Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH), Moscow
RSUH Hindi group students of the Faculty of International Relations and Area Studies organized the International scientific online conference "Linguistic and Ethnic Self-identification Exemplified by the Countries of South and Southeast Asia".
Scholars from Moscow State University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi, India), Center for Pale ethnological Research and RSUH presented their reports concerning various identification issues of the Countries of South and Southeast Asia.
Speakers:
Prof. Boris Zakharyin presented the paper about the dependence of religious and linguistic factors in the ethnic psychology of Kashmiris.
Dr. Liudmila Khokhlova made a presentation on the interaction of confessional, ethnic and linguistic criteria in the process of self-identification of Indian and Pakistani Punjabis.
Dr. Guzel Strelkova emphasized regional particularities in Hindi prose.
Prof. Alexander Stolyarov focused on the problems of preserving the identity of the Bodo tribe through the ethnic literary festival named Bodo Sahitya Sabha
Dr. Indira Gazieva highlighted the imported role of knowledge of a foreign language in the identity construction.
Dr. Denis Pezhemsky, Director of the Paleoethnology Research Center and his colleagues: Lilia Zaripova, Alina Gilmitdinova Natalya Leibova presented the results of the Indian Anthropological Expedition, in which they studied the identity of the Tripuri ethnic group.
Dr. Arunim Bandyopadhyay and Prof. Meeta Narain, Centre of Russian Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University stressed the importance of studying the problem of identity not only in multi-ethnic India, but also in Russia. Scholars try to adapt the language for students and use synonyms as important issues in teaching.
Dr. Ajoy Kumar Karnati, CRS, JNU added his point of view on broad connection existing between language and identification, especially in the southern states of India.
Richa Sawant CRS, JNU emphasized the necessity of Hindi language in such professions: marketing, advertising, mass media etc. Therefore young people try to speak Hindi well and use expressive words.
The presentations of the 2nd and 3rd year students of the Faculty of International Relations and Area Studies RSUH presented reports on ethno cultural policy in different periods in Southeast Asia.
RSUH 2nd year BA and 1st MA students – Sofia Kiseleva, Amina Mukhametkhanova, Maria Skorobogatova and Arina Novikova – made presentations about their articles on ethnic identification of different tribes in the state of Assam.
