Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU); Departments of History and Foreign Languages (Russian Section) in association with Russian State University of Humanities, Moscow (RGGU) Centre for South Asian Studies and Faculty of Foreign Relations and Area Studies, are organized the International Conference on “Images of India in Russia and Images of Russia in India 28, 29, 30 January 2020. Pune, Maharashtra, India on Jan. 28-30, 2020

The poster presentations of students from Russian and Indian universities devoted to Soviet-Indian, Russian-Indian topics, culture and art were presented in the foyer of the Main building of the university.

Dr. Shraddha Kumbhojkar, HOD History Pune UNI noted that she was very pleased that the organizing of this International conference was starting the process of integrating of various levels and organizational forms of education and science between the RSUH and the University of Pune.
She thanked RSUH teachers and the teachers of the University of Pune, as well as the students for their help in organizing the conference.
Professor Alexander Stolyarov read out a welcome address from the rector of the RSUH prof. Alexander Bezborodov and handed the honorary guests and organizers the “Russia-India” calendar created by RSUH ART Design students - Natalya Palachar, Ekaterina Feduleeva and Sofia Zhurba who made this project under the guidance of Dr Tatyana Borisova and Dr Andrey Shulika, technical editor.
Khristina Boiko, Consul, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai marked that the conference is being held at the significant University of Pune named after Savitribai Phule, a famous woman in Maharashtra, who carried out social reforms in the 19th century and played an important role in improving the lives of women and Dalit communities during British rule and wished participants in fruitful discussions and new achievements.
Dr Sergey V. Fandeev, Director of Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Mumbai, Vice-Consul mentioned the importance of a poster exhibition of students, which presents images of Russia and India of the 20th century. Mr. Fandeev thanked the organizing committee and the teachers of the Russian language, who love Russia and spread its image among Indian students and wished participants successful wok!
Professor Emeritus of the Department of History Raja Dikshit told the participants about the images of Russia and India in the 20th century in the field of history, politics, culture, literature, art and cinema. He gave examples of how the image of the country can be propagated at different periods of history and the images of many political and historical figures had been changing.
Professor R. Dikshit visited Russia and noted that in the USSR’s image was promoted by publications of Marxist-Leninist literature, translations into Indian languages by Maxim Gorky, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Pushkin by two well-known publishing houses – “Raduga” and “Progress". Soviet-Indian cooperation is well represented on student posters.
Indology research, religion and philosophy studies, comparative literature and the influence of literature on the spiritual and moral paradigms of society in the 21st century, the history of thought in India and Russia, the influence of the Russian revolution on the national movement in India, and Leninism, the aspects of the political and socio-economic history of India and Russia, the mutual influence of cultures through cinema, art, literature and philosophy, the mutual influence of cultures by the methods of translation and media studies are discussed during the conference.
