RSUH Hindi-Chinese group students Daniela Todoroshchan, Ekaterina Moskalenko, Rishabh Sharma, Sofya Kiseleva, Mariya Skorobogatova, Victor Toropov, Alina Fasakhova, Amina Mukhametkhanova participated the Round table “Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy” dedicated to the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event was held in Museum-Estate “Yasnaya Polyana”, Tula district organized by Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State University for the Humanities in collaboration with the Embassy of India to the Russian Federation and Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate "Yasnaya Polyana".
The RSUH students' Art exhibition “Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy” 13 posters made by Anna Andronova, Darya Bobyl, Olga Vasilyeva, Maria Gorbatyuk, Maria Karpova, Yulia Litvakova, Lucas Mendez Maria Cielo, Natalia Palachar, Elvira Suleimanova, Veronika Filimonova, Lina Shlain were placed in front of the Conference building.
The Exhibition, curated by renowned Gandhi scholar, Dr. Birad Yajnik, was inaugurated by the Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, His Excellency, Mr. DB Venkatesh Varma and Ms. Ekaterina Tolstoy, Director of the Tolstoy Estate, Mr. Prakash Javadekar, the current Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ms. Olga Gremyakova, Deputy Governor of the Tula Region; Ms. Rybkina Tatyana, Deputy Minister - Director of the Department of Culture of the Tula region.
The Exhibition dedicated to the correspondence between the two great souls of the 20th century, tracing their relationship and the impact this had on their individual journeys.
The Academic Conference "Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy" was organized by the Center for Indian Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Russian State Humanitarian University (RSUH), the Embassy of the Republic of India in the Russian Federation, Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate of “Yasnaya Polyana”, Tula region.
Keynote speakers were - Dr. Tatiana Zagorodnikova with the report about “L.N. Tolstoy and M.K. Gandhi. Correspondence” and Prof. Sergey Serebryaniy (RSUH).The theme of paper was – “How M.K. Gandhi helps us understand Leo Tolstoy”.
The Academic Conference comprises of some of the leading scholars on Gandhi and Tolstoy from India and Russia, exploring themes such as the ‘moral and ethical conceptions in Gandhi’s and Tolstoy’s works’, ‘influence of Tolstoy on Gandhi’s passive resistance movement’ and ‘reflections of Gandhi in Soviet Russia’.
