The celebration of "Gandhi-jayanti" or the 155th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth

On October 2, 2024, the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) jointly with the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Russia celebrated "Gandhi-jayanti" or the 155th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth. This day the International Day of Non-Violence is also celebrated in all parts of our world. This significant event took place at Hall of the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre.

Before the event, the Hindi essay contest was announced among the Russian students who are study Hindi. The topic of essay was "How Mahatma Gandhi changed the world forever?"

RUSH Art Design Educational Center' students studying graphic design created 30 posters dedicated to the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.

Welcoming speeches were delivered by:

His Excellency Shri Vinay Kumar, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation and Professor Vera Zabotkina, the RSUH 's Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation.

Professor Sergey Serebryany, Director of the Institute of Higher Humanitarian Studies at the Russian State University for the Humanities, delivered a lecture about the life of Gandhi.

The was a performance of the unique Indian group "Rivayat" concert under the direction of Sri Siddhartha Banerjee, who plays the stringed instrument "siddha veena" in the Hindustani fusion style.

The students of various universities became winners at the Hindi essay competition.  

The winners of the 1-2-3 place competition were: Anastasia Mikhailova, Maria Mazuka, Maria Kuchmenko, Anastasia Mitina, Angelina Kagramanova, Nina Gubanova, Georgy Melikyan, Lyubov Shchebet and Olesya Savelyeva.

The 2nd year of the RSUH Hindi group students received prizes - Alina Zvyagintseva, Anastasia Burda, Anastasia Shitikova, Elena Shakh, Margarita Ermalyuk, Varvara Shcherbakova

HE Shri Vinay Kumar, the Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation presented memorable gifts to the event organizers and jury members.

We appreciate the Ms. Madhura Kankana Roy, Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre of the Embassy of India in the Russian Federation, Mr. Nikkhilesh Giri, Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Tada Mama, Counselor for Press, Information and Culture, Embassy of India in Moscow for joint cooperation with the RSUH.
