International round table “Azerbaijani-Russian relations as a factor of peace and stability in the South Caucasus”

The event was held on April 4, 2024, on the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.

The event was opened by Dr. Bakhshalieva, Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. She noted the constant systematic strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, identifying them as a factor of regional stability and development and emphasizing the importance of intensifying humanitarian partnership along with economic and political interaction.

Dr. Zinnurov, the representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted that the event gave the participants an opportunity to analyze the years that had passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. He highlighted the main activities of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Azerbaijan, spoke about a number of projects implemented by the Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku.

President Pivovar stated that research in the field of studying the history and modern development of the Azerbaijan Republic in a wide range of areas was becoming increasingly popular and significant in Russia.

The moderator of the Table was Associate Professor of RSUH, Dr. Gushchin. The topic “Monumental commemoration of the feat of Azerbaijanis in the Great Patriotic War (on the example of monuments on the territory of the Russian Federation)” was presented by Associate Professor of the Department of Post-Soviet Foreign Countries of RSUH, Dr. Kosovan. The topic of the activities of the Eurasian Association of Universities and the work of Azerbaijani universities was raised to the speech of Dr. Kondrashova, a lecturer at the Department of Post-Soviet Countries of RSUH.

A special place in the discussion was occupied by the issues of socio-cultural interaction and the development of academic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Dr. Mamedov, Head of the Center for Innovative Economic Research of Azerbaijan Technical University, spoke on the analysis of the development of economic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening the partnership and increasing trade turnover.

Dr. Mamedzade, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, spoke about joint research in the field of philosophy, emphasizing its significance in the conditions of transformation not only of international relations, but also of the world picture as a whole.

Dr. Pritchin, Head of the Central Asian sector of the RAS, highlighted the issues of resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, assessed the policy of the West, primarily France, in the South Caucasus region as aimed at ousting Russia from the region, which is destructive for its development.

The presentation of Dr. Guseynova, Chair of the Department of History of the Peoples of the Caucasus at Baku State University was dedicated to the issues of regional security.

Dr. Niyazov, Chair of the Department of International Relations in the Post-Soviet Space of St. Petersburg State University, spoke about a practice-oriented approach to interuniversity cooperation, in particular the need to create and develop joint educational master's programs.

Dr. Agakishiev, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Near-Abroad Countries, Head of the specialization “History of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani Diaspora” of Moscow State University, highlighted the importance of cooperation between agricultural producers of Russia and Azerbaijan, improving customs regimes, and joint study of economic history.

Dr. Pak, Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations of the Lumumba University, spoke about the prospects for industrial and trade interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan.

Dr. Manshin, Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations of the RUDN, spoke about migration between Azerbaijan and Russia, and specifically, trends and approaches to estimating its numbers.

Dr.Boev, Director of the Center for Oriental Studies of the Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University, spoke about the importance of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations.

Dr. Utevskaya, Director of the International Institute of Economics and Politics of St. Petersburg State Economic University, spoke about the main areas of cooperation between St. Petersburg State University and Azerbaijani universities in the context of implementation of educational programs jointly with state corporations.
